The Lucy Show on DVD

"The Lucy Show", a follow up to her smashing hit, "I Love Lucy", was Lucille Ball's second sitcom which aired for six seasons on CBS from 1962 to 1968 -- two years after her divorce to former co-star Desi Arnaz.  In this sitcom, Lucille Ball was reunited with her writers from I Love Lucy as well as her co-star; Vivian Vance.

The show featured Lucille Ball as "Lucy Carmichael", a widow with two children, a daughter Chris (played by Candy Moore) and a son Jerry (played by Jimmy Garrett) living in Danfield, New York.  She shared her home with divorcee Vivian Bagley (played by Vivian Vance) and her son Sherman (Ralph Hart).  Later in the series, Lucy moved to Los Angeles and all references to her prior life in Danfield (including her children) had been removed from the script.

At the end of the first season, the show received rave reviews from critics and was ranked #5 in the Nielsen ratings.  Throughout the life of this sitcom, Ball was nominated for an Emmy Award two times as Best Actress in a Series, but lost both times.

The earliest scripts of the show were called "The Lucille Ball Show", but when this title was declined, the titled changed to "The Lucy Show". 

Beginning in the 1963-64 season, the episodes were filmed in color, but continued to be aired in black and white until September 1965.
